Mycotoxins:
Mycotoxins are the most prevalent toxins in the environment causing many different chronic diseases. Those metabolites are naturally released by certain types of moulds (fungi) able to grow on numerous foodstuffs such as cereals, dried fruits, nuts and spices.
Mould growth can occur either before or after harvest, during storage, on/in the food itself, often under warm, damp and humid conditions. They can survive food processing as unfortunately, most mycotoxins are chemically resistant to heat and many processing procedures. A majority of mycotoxin exposures are through food ingestion or indirectly from animals that are fed with contaminated feed, in particular from milk.
In the European Union, 20% of all grains harvested have been found to be contaminated with mycotoxins.
Several hundred different mycotoxins have been identified, but the most commonly observed mycotoxins that present a concern to human health and livestock include Aflatoxins, Ochratoxin A, Patulin, Fumonisins, Zearalenone and Nivalenol/Deoxynivalenol
Cyanotoxins:
Cyanotoxins are produced and contained into the cells of a wide variety of planktonic cyanobacteria.
The release of these toxins in an algal bloom into the surrounding water occurs mostly during cell death and lysis. However, some cyanobacteria species are able to release toxins into the water without cell rupture or death.
Some of the most commonly occurring are Microcystis, Dolichospermum, and Planktothrix which produce Microcystins, Cylindrospermopsins, Anatoxins and all their derivatives.
We are able to supply these cyanotoxins mainly in liquid form. n’TOX is specialized in the preparation of specific mixtures; for example containing up to 7 microcystins and nodularin, or association between Anatoxin and BMAA etc…
